  About the Artist: Tom Wise
Tom spent his professional career as a high
school art educator and administrator in the
Omaha, Nebraska area. After retirement, Tom
decided he wanted to study photography
and enrolled in the photography program at
  Metropolitan Community College in Omaha.
While enrolled in the program, Tom took
black and white film classes that
reawakened memories he had of working in
the darkroom with his father, an avid amateur
photographer. As a result, Tom took a
different route from his original intent of
  studying digital photography. Instead, he
pursued the art of alternative process
  photographic printing, or ‘alt. process
printing’ as it is more commonly known
  among its practitioners.
  Alternative process photographic printing
consists of processes that were in use from
the mid 19th century through the early 20th
century. These processes include, but are
not limited to, platinum printing, kallitype,
  cyanotype, gum bichromate printing and
carbon prints. What connects all of these
processes is that they rely on UV light, and
contact printing. Tom’s work is primarily
palladium and gold toned kallitypes, gum
  bichromate prints, cyanotypes and
  combinations of these processes.
Tom moved to Placitas in August, 2019 from
Nebraska and looks forward to pursuing his
photographic endeavors in the Land of
  Enchantment.
