Born in Santa Monica, California, almost before the advent of record
keeping, I was raised partly in California. Over the years, however, I have
lived in a number of different areas of the US, as well as some time in
Europe. However, my photographic influences have been West Coast. My
photographic life actually got started in the small high school (17 in my
graduating class) in Oklahoma. There I had an instructor who built an
photographic enlarger that hung on the wall in a small dark room. I was
hooked.
I moved back to California after high school. There I played rock 'n roll
music as a musician in Hollywood, attended some collage, and continued
my interest in photography. I eventually attended photographic workshops
with some of the most influential West Coast photographers of the time.
Although never depending on photography for a living, I did some
commercial work during those years. My main interest over that time –
black and white landscapes - reflected the influence of the West Coast
photographers that I appreciated.
I have made the transition from large format film cameras to digital.
Today, even though I now work in an all digital environment, I still do
primarily black and white work. I still create, and enjoy color images
however. I do all of my own work, from the camera to computer
processing of the images, to the printing and framing.
After all these years, there is still enjoyment and satisfaction in the
process and the end result.
