Experimentation with color and surfaces, a quest for interesting subject matter, and explorations into diverse and rich southwestern traditions inspire Gene's furniture creations, paintings, murals, and sculputure.
This artist's rule is to amuse himself with subject matter, design, and color! Art degrees from the University of Kansas in 1968 and 1974 have led to a lifetime of making things.
His series include skulls and New Mexico culture, cowboy and cowgirl southwestern life, adult signature chairs, and children's furniture. His most recent amusement is a play on "Route 66" and "clasical car" themes, inspired by this special place and a special place in time. One-of-a-kind chairs and chair/table sets reflect this new theme.
In 1999 Gene received the "Most Unique Design Award" at the Northern New Mexico Woodworker Guild Winter Show".
