ARTIST STATEMENT Diane OrchardDiane's work includes printmaking, painting and sculpture. The abstract, conceptual work develops from ideas related to her wide variety of interests that include literature, music, and travel. Her work is a process of discovery and inquiry; it is a meditative process where elimination and editing is a key part of the work. The prints are a combination of techniques in a process of layering color, line and image; she combines monotypes with etching, collograph or collage. Diane works her paintings in mixed media, or oil, emphasizing color and texture. The iconography is drawn from the imagination, the figure as well as the natural environment. The combination of iconography and the formal qualities of the medium, result in images that invite the viewer to engage in her imaginary world. Diane, a native of Canada, relocated to Placitas NM where she now dedicates her time to art as well as creative writing in Spanish.
