Adriana Scassellati
Born in Amsterdam, Adriana Scassellati came as a teenager to
America with her family and they settled in the northern suburbs
of Chicago. Adriana has always been interested in art and the use
of colors displayed in all media. The opportunity to study and time
to create finally arrived when she retired to Placitas with her husband.
A friend introduced her to pastels and Scassellati joined Deborah
Secor's pastel class and is still a member. She is also a student of
Sue Buck who is a Professor of Art at Allegheny College in Pa. and
conducts classes here in Albuquerque. Adriana has studied with
Doug Dawson and has completed a 3 day workshop with Frank
Frederico. She is a member of the Pastel Society of New Mexico.
Adriana was drawn to the medium of pastels for the many, many
color variations, the ease of application and different materials and
methods that are available. "This has opened up a whole new avenue
for me and an appreciation of the arts that I had not known before".
She is attracted to sunsets and landscapes because of her love and
passion of the outdoors especially here in the "Land of Enchantment".
My hiking here gives me my inspirations and seeing the natural vibrant
colors enables me to express myself in my pastel paintings.
Adriana has shown at the Placitas Artist Series different times in the
past including this last October. She has also opened her studio and
shown her work successfully in the past 5 years and is showing again
this year in the Placitas Studio Tour along with 41 other artists on
Mothers Day weekend. Scassellati has also shown at the New Mexico
State Fair in the past.
